How to build a List- How build an awesome landing page!

There is a common saying in marketing that “The riches are in the list.” This means an email list of course. So it’s a good idea to learn how to build a list. One great way to get started is to concentrate on building an awesome landing page.

What is a landing page?

Simply put a landing page is the front of your website area that you want the most people to see. It can also be called a squeeze page or lead capture page. The basic idea is to create something of value, or an “ethical bribe” in exchange for the visitor giving you their email address.

Marketing gold

A visitor’s email is like marketing gold. After you obtain it, you can provide a steady stream of emails that can inform, excite and make them like and trust you.

There are so many effective email list building and autoresponder tools available that setting up campaigns is a snap. Getresponse is a program that is great for beginners.

How to build a List- The landing page

These days, it’s an absolute necessity to have a professional looking and functional landing page. The aim is to get a decent percentage of your website visitors to “opt-in” by providing their email address to you.

Ethical bribe

Its a good idea to provide visitors with something of value to get access to their email address. Ebooks use to be all the rage, but they may be too much information for some people. Good ideas include infographics, audit lists, to do lists, templates, reports, white papers, videos and the like. It really helps if your freebie “scratches the itch” of those in your niche.
What are some typical problems that your target market faces? What can you offer them that will help?

How to build a List- Call in the Pros

Of any area that you want to invest money in hiring professional writers, your landing page would be at the top of the list. Basically, a landing page is like a short sales letter. A good sales letter in the right place can make you a lot of money. The copy of a landing page can be less of a “hard sell” than a direct sales letter. But this is no excuse to get sloppy. Just because you are giving away a free product doesn’t necessarily mean that they owe you anything.
You should aim to offer solutions to their problems. Your users won’t care about you until they find out how much you care about them.

Keep it Simple Silly

When it comes to creating a landing page, it pays to keep it very simple. The simpler the better. The main function is to perform the trade of email for your special gift. This is not time to show off a lot of info about you or your website. Save that for your email campaigns when they sign up.

Benefits, Benefits, Benefits

The actual subscription to your mailing list/subscription is only a byproduct of why they are getting on your list. It pays to always provide the benefits of why they are signing up.
Explain why they need to download your free offer. How will it make their life better?
How will they miss out without it? It’s also a good idea to point out discreetly that the signup is free.

Personalize your process

Although automation seems to be the order of the day, there is no substitute for personal messages and touches for your clients. People like communicating with real people.

As many tasks are handled by “bots” or automation, you can really stand out by sending thank you emails that are directly from you. People love stories and brief, interesting anecdotes. It really pays to build relationships with your list as soon as they sign up. This can be in the form of a “thank you” email with a little info on you. This will mean a lot as it’s not standard procedure.
